Women’s Auxiliary News

The Fall Bazaar was an outstanding success with over $3,600 raised for CMHA programs. The Ladies thank all of those who gave their support to the bazaar through donations, purchases and volunteer assistance. The incredible hard work of this wonderful group of women has helped to raise enough money to improve the lives of our participants in a wide range of ways, from an awesome drumming workshop for Community Explorations clients, to practical items that help programs provide the best possible service. Thanks to everyone, we could not have done it without your support.

Quotes:

Superman's not brave. You can't be brave if you're indestructible. It's every day people, like you and me, that are brave knowing we could easily be defeated but still continue forward. - unknown

Dreams are renewable. No matter what our age or condition, there are still untapped possibilities within us and new beauty waiting to be born. - Dr. Dale Turner

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM ALL OF US AT CMHA!!

 Changes in the Agency:

The year of 2008 has been one of many changes here at CMHA. Marilyn Elbourne and Maxine Dell, both whom have served the agency for nearly 20 years have retired, leaving a legacy of passion and hard work.  CMHA administration welcomes Pam Edwards as Associate Director and Kelley Heard as the head of the Housing department. We also welcomed a newcomer, Jennifer Parkinson, to the Alzheimers program. Jennifer has replaced Lori James-Derry who has also retired this year.

In August 2008, Our Executive Director, Liam McEnery decided to explore new horizons in Ontario. Pam Edwards has been appointed as the Acting Executive Director until further notice.

   Program Services

This year we have served over 500 people in our core programs, continue to provide housing for over 230 people with a mental illness and take an average of 5 calls or emails a week from people seeking support or advice about mental illness. We have found over 80 jobs for participants in the NetWorks program this year, and received 280 referrals for the G.R.O.W program. We have also seen a recent increase in the referral rate to the Alzheimers Day Program.  Additionally this year we ran two very successful youth programs called Skills by Design, funded by Service Canada, which assisted youth in returning to school or gaining employment.  We are hoping to run another youth program in 2009, potentially in partnership with the BC museum.
